Inspire Us Thursday, October 30!

Last week was a pretty quiet party. And then my model was down and out with strep throat and in need of much Mommy-nursing, so it was pretty quiet here, too. I'm looking forward to getting back into the sewing/creative groove with some help of your help. Inspire me! Inspire each other! Today, find inspiration by clicking on a project the same color as the one you've linked or are currently working on -- if you made a red Halloween costume this week, find another red project among the links; if you worked in blue, click on something blue. You'll find inspiration looking at creations made in someone else's studio, even if the medium is different than your own.

It's Inspire Us Thursday! Time to show it off, link it up, and click around! Link up your creations in fiber: sewing, cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, crochet, the fiber of your choice.

Out Sick, Be Back Soon!

Life happens. Random fevers of moaningness take over. And even our most stylish pajamas can't protect us from strep tests at the doctor's office just before Halloween. See you on the other side!

Today, click on the project just before yours -- that one's pretty easy, but click even if it doesn't look like your cup of tea. Take some time to see what another creator is producing and let them know you visited. If we only fill our creative wells with projects and styles like our own, our wells, and therefore our work, will become stagnant. Time to look around and see what else is out there.

And speaking of filling our creative wells be sure to visit my brand new page on Facebook (me? true!) and in addition to sharing what's happening here on the blog and behind the scenes, I'll be sharing little bits and pieces of inspiration as I find them. It's kind of lonely over there right now, but I'm busy pumping out sewing for Kids Clothes Week anyway.

Couch Craft: Bright Felt Ornament

Since July I've been wanting to try my hand at creating my felt Christmas bauble ornament in bright, non-traditional colors. I started October's couch craft making pumpkins (as yet unfinished), but the itch to get those ornaments out of my head grew too strong to ignore. So this past weekend I sat down in front of the TV with my glue gun and got them out of my head.

Halloween Hack: A Robot that Can Sit!

Halloween! It's almost here, and if you regularly use a sewing machine that means it's time to think costumes. Stephanie of Swoodson Says has put together a great blog tour to help you out; Halloween Hacks; PDF Patterns Halloweenified. For my part of the tour, I'm going to show you how to take three simple patterns (a dress, pajama bottoms, and a raglan tee) to create a flexible, sit-down-able Robot Baby [in our house Robot Baby is always said in our best robot voices].

TUTORIAL: Asymmetrical Color-Blocking on Knits

The calendar flipped to October and the air magically turned chillier this weekend, at least in our little corner of the world it did. Time to break out the long sleeves and hoodies! Knit long sleeved tees are the staples of The Peanut's wardrobe (mine, too) once the weather turns cooler. I still prefer shopping for fabric in a brick an mortar so that  I can feel the fabric and see the color. Sadly, the knits necessary for tees are still underrepresented in our local stores. So I turn to appliques and color blocking to keep things interesting. I first put together this tutorial in August, so I'm excited The Peanut can actually wear the top now. And as long as I've pulled it out of the drawer for her, let me pull it out for you, too.

Asymmetrical color blocking on knit can be done with a pattern you already have on hand with the help of this quick tutorial and tips from The Inspired Wren.
