#madeforkidsmonth, A Recap

Last month, The Peanut and I participated in #madeforkidsmonth on Instagram. An initiative started by Leisl of Oliver + S and Rae of Made By Rae, Made for Kids Month is described as a way to get our kids to wear and enjoy their handmade items, whoever made them. Brilliant!

The Peanut still hasn't shown much interest in choosing her own clothing. Although, if you ask her to get a shirt she will always pick the almost-too-small dinosaur turtleneck from Grandma, regardless of the time of the year. [Note to self: more dino-themed clothes. Still.]

As a result I did much of the choosing. I originally shared all of these images on Instagram and Flickr, but in case you missed any (or all) here's how it went.

By the middle of Week 2 I was starting to feel like an unwanted paparazzo. She never willingly poses for pics and I want to save my chocolate stash (and the power it commands) for our project-specific photo sessions. So I found myself running ahead of her whenever she was walking and taking as many snaps as I could on my less-obtrusive-than-a-real-camera phone, all the while hoping just one image would show the outfit, without some crazy face. Doesn't she look just like a celeb deliberately ignoring the paparazzi (yet secretly enjoying the attention)? Check out that attitude on Day 21. At this rate, mom's blog will have her fully trained as a super-model by the time she graduates grade school.

A part of me is looking forward to the day The Peanut decides to exert her will in choosing her clothes; I'm curious what style she'll choose for herself. And of course another part of me will miss these days of choosing for her. Hopefully Made for Kids Month will be an annual internet event. Then as she gets older we can talk about where all of our clothes come from and who makes them when Mom doesn't.

Day 29 she re-wore the same outfit from Days 2 and 24, and I missed any chance to get a pic. On Day 30 she didn't wear handmade during the day, and just when I was sure I missed the last day altogether I looked over (while waiting for the sunset on Skyline Drive) and realized she was in handmade after all:
