Kids Clothes Week, Days 5-7

Days 5-7? HA! I was going strong. I was sewing AND blogging. Daily. And then...it hit. Just when The Peanut had powered through a week of being under the weather, and after seemingly five minutes of health, a 24-hour stomach bug entered our house and decided to stay for 72 hours (24 hours x 3 people = 72 hours of misery). We are on the other side now (oh, Dear Lord, please!). We are all recuperating and the house is fully disinfected (I hope). Sewing should resume later today.

Before I realized the 24-hour bug would be jumping to my stomach immediately after The Peanut's I managed to sneak a little sewing in toward Project Run and Play Week 4.

It (was) Kids Clothes Week! In honor of KCW, and for just (last) week only, I attempted to blog daily and document all sewing [through mostly cell-phone pics]. This is the final (delayed) post in that attempt.

Kids Clothes Week: Sew clothes for your kids. One hour a day. Each day for seven days.

The Peanut is in need of a new light-weight Spring/Fall coat. I sewed her current coat in 2011 (I think?) and the sleeves are just now too short un-cuffed. As much as I wanted to keep to my Project Run and Play mini-collection palette, her "favorite color ever in the whole wide world" is blue. True blue. So I decided on a blue denim with a pop of chartreuse in piping and top-stitching. When I sat down to begin I was frustrated to remember that I need to make the piping. Ugh. But I soldiered on.

Seriously. I looked at this and groaned.

But I got to use my new adjustable zipper foot. The plastic one that came with the 20+ year old machine kept breaking and no amount of crazy glue would hold it together longer than one project.

Even in real life (not just in phone-pics) that piping reads more yellow, than chartreuse green.

I like the effect of the piping but for some reason on the blue it looks more yellow than green. I'm a bit disappointed in that -- and not sure now if I'll include this coat in my PRP Week 4 solution. I was aleady debating it because of the blue. Still debating.

Gathering denim is ...not easy.

I forget where I read about using two stands of thread for top-stitching, but I really want to kiss that blogger. I use that trick all the time.

Beginning to look like a coat!

Before my stummy took its turn for the worse, I managed to get the pockets in place, the collar basted on, and inserted the zipper, too. Then I went to take a 24-hour nap.

Zipper went in and I went down for the count.

I've got some catching up to do now. And it's spring break -- we have lots of fun outings planned that will take me away from the sewing machine. I'm very hopeful that I can have this look completed and blogged by Friday morning before the Project Run and Play sew along link-up closes. Wish me luck! And now I'm off to the children's museum.
