PICTORIAL: Christmas Forest Pillow

Christmas is my most best favorite AWESOMEST time of the year! I can never get enough music! Or lights! Or decorations! [Mr. Wren and I were even married during the Christmas season just so we could have the music, lights, and decorations as part of our ceremony. True story.] Today I’m starting my Christmas celebrating by joining Deanna from Sew McCool for her 12 Days of Christmas Holiday Blogger Challenge. I'm sharing a pictorial for a custom pillow (or print) with a Forest of Christmas Trees to bring the holiday into your home.

I love the simplicity of these tall trees all in a row. I originally planned on various shaped trees but decided I like the look of uniformity best. This great repetitive print fabric can be made on your ink-jet printer or with iron-on transfer paper [Amazon affiliate link] -- the image is available for download with the directions here for just $1.99! Of course you could also get the same look with stamps. The final pillow is a sweet 8" x 14" adorned with fifteen button-topped trees. The white piping pops against the forest-green fabric and the red thread on the buttons adds bright holiday color.

If you'd like full written directions, you can download the 4-page PDF version here for just $1.99! Otherwise follow along with the pictures below to sew a cheery Christmas Forest Pillow.

I had trouble deciding the color of this pillow – green on pale-green? black on red? dark green on natural? Too many choices! My goal was to make a companion pillow for my Tall Tree Pillow so I chose the button tree toppers, but I can totally see this pillow with sequins in place of the buttons. As it is it’s a sweet little pillow that adds holiday spirit to our home.

The Peanut saw the pillow, cuddled it, then counted fifteen Christmas Trees and said, "Uh oh! There's supposed to be twelve for the twelve days of Christmas." Clearly I should have consulted her during the design process. To make up for my pillow mistake I printed the image again with twelve trees and framed it. Even if you don't feel like sewing, you can still have a cheery holiday forest in your home. For a super quick project you could even "cheat": print on paper, then stitch (or glue!) the buttons/sequins in place.

If you sew a Christmas Forest Pillow or use the image as décor in your home I'd love to see it. Come share your projects on The Inspired Wren Share page. There you can link up images of your work from a blog, Flickr, Pinterest, or Instagram.

I didn't have enough buttons left to top all twelve trees, so I decided to highlight one tree with a button and a sequin.
