Square 7! Crochet Along Afghan Sampler (July)

Crochet along to make a contemporary afghan sampler over the course of one year -- have a finished blanket in time for Christmas giving.

It's time again! Square 7 (July) of the Crochet Along Afghan Sampler, Bobbles, is here. Get ready to hook!

Welcome back, crochet friends! If you're just now finding us, we are crocheting a contemporary afghan sampler; hooking one stitch into two separate squares each month. There's still plenty of time to join in and finish a blanket by the end of the year. You can stitch the squares in any order, but be sure to read Square 1, January first -- it explains the color scheme and overall process.

My apologies to those of you who have asked questions in the comments that I have yet to reply. With The Peanut out of school, this summer has found me more pool-side than computer-side. I am thrilled that others have stepped up and helped with answers of their own! Keep it up: keep asking and answering questions and I'll do my best to jump-in when I can, too.

Likewise, many thanks to those of you who catch my mistakes! You rock for pointing them out so I can get them corrected as quickly as possible. Clearly I'm a one-woman show in desperate need of a crochet-knowledgeable editor -- thank (anonymous) you for coming forward and helping out.

SQUARE 7, JULY

This month we are working square 7 of 10 (woo hoo!), a repeating bobble stitch. Like previous squares, this fabric is reversible with bobbles worked from both sides. In fact this square is based on Knit Picks' Little Leaves Crochet Dischcloth Pattern; I've used a larger hook and changed the beginning chain count to achieve our nine-inch square, but otherwise it's the same. The fabric is made with one bobble plus one chain repeated across, where each bobble falls into the chain-space of the previous row. Like so...

HOMEWORK

Keep on hooking! The next square (Square 8) will release on Tuesday, August 25 -- I've got my eye on some crochet waves (must be the ocean influence). Don't forget you can now subscribe to The Inspired Wren to get new posts delivered right to your in-box -- no need to search out the next square, it'll come right to you.

Remember to upload your progress to our Flickr Group and tag your Instagram shots with #afghansampler so we can all cheer each other on and answer questions as they come up. Is anyone working in one color? I love my colors, but I'm still wishing I had also done a monochromatic version and I'd love to see one; if you're out there, share!
